SALAM DESA MADANI 5.0 @ KUALA TAHAN

KUALA TAHAN, 28 OCTOBER - The "Salam Desa Madani 5.0 @ Kuala Tahan" program is a program aimed at introducing the knowledge of science and mathematics to indigenous Bateq children through engaging activities. This program is organized by the Community Volunteer & Green Technology Secretariat (SUKTEK), the College Representative Council, Tan Sri Aishah Ghani College (KTAG), in collaboration with the management of Tan Sri Aishah Ghani College, the Faculty of Engineering, the University Community Transformation Center (UCTC), and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) Hope and Birdgroup Taman Negara. The program was successfully held at Kampung Kuala Atok, Kuala Tahan from October 27th to October 29th 2023.

This program is one of the efforts of the College Representative Council, Tan Sri Aishah Ghani College, to enhance the knowledge of science and mathematics among Bateq indigenous students because they have not reached the standard of the education system practiced in urban schools. This is a matter of concern because the exposure to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) among these indigenous children cannot be implemented comprehensively due to the outdated education system. This program also serves as a medium to expose the members of the organizing committee, which consists of Tan Sri Aishah Ghani College students, to the real-life community situation in the village and to establish strong bonds with the residents in Kuala Tahan through the activities conducted. In addition, the program is also an effort to introduce University Putra Malaysia as one of the public universities that not only emphasizes on the academic achievements of students but also prioritizes the organization of programs that promote student well-being holistically.

Despite facing various challenges, the program was successfully conducted with the assistance of the 11 committee members who are students of Tan Sri Aishah Ghani College. The program also received great enthusiasm from the participants, consisting of 50 Bateq indigenous children. Therefore, the program fosters a spirit of cooperation among the committee members to make the activities a success. Furthermore, the program involved activities such as Explorace and Science is Fun. Through these activities, the participants were exposed to the joy of learning science and also developed an interest towards STEM subjects.
