SERDANG, APRIL 16 – The IQRA' program has drawn its curtain. With the support of two main activities which are IQRA's Special Forum: Science and Civilization and IQRA': Let's Read Activity! , had a great impact on various targeted communities for this program.

It is clear that IQRA's main objective is to instill the spirit of reading and learning among the community while providing a good platform to improve holistic skills for an individual. Starting with the special forum that took place on April 15 at Dewan Putra 1, it witnessed two great panels namely Dato' Prof. Dr. Abdul Mua'ti Ahmad @ Zamri and Mr. Sayed Munawar Sayed Mustar discussing a very interesting topic related to science and civilization.

The forum run by an experienced moderator, sister Hannah Zaihal Hazri, clearly adds to the draw and appeal of this forum. The panels and moderator discussed the culture of reading and how it becomes a foundation of knowledge and the base of construction for a civilization.

"Iqra' does not only mean reading. But it needs to be accompanied by appreciating, teaching and ‘mujadalah’ (dialogue) together so that the contents of the reading can be practiced and spread in the community." said the second panel, Tuan Sayed Munawar.

This forum was also officiated by the chairman of the Board of Principle of the residential colleges of Universiti Putra Malaysia, Prof. Associate Dr. Amini Amir Abdullah and attended by guest of honor Prof. Assoc. Ir. Dr. Ahmad Shukri Muhammad Noor, the principle of Tan Sri Aishah Ghani College.

There are also several book sales booths opened by well-known domestic book companies such as UPM Publishers, The Bibliophile and IMAN Publication. The sale of this book is done so that the participants and visitors can buy and instill the habit of reading daily.

On April 16, 2023, several students from Universiti Putra Malaysia visited the orphanage of Asrama Damai Kuang located in Rawang to carry out the reading activity. The participants who participated in this activity were a total of 55 students from the hostel and 22 facilitators. The students were divided into several groups and then asked to read and understand the story given to the group.

The group members were then asked to act out in front of their friends so that the role model stories they read can be shared together. "A positive development that can be witnessed by these children where their knowledge in exemplary stories increases. If before, they only knew one out of five, but after the activity was carried out they knew all five of the stories", said the program director, Ajmal Hadi Has-Yun.

After the activity, the participants and facilitators break their fast together and perform isha and taraweeh prayers in congregation before the facilitators who are UPM students returned to UPM at 10.15pm.
